Brew Hui Podcast, Episode 3: Luke Nicholas

The first three installments of the Brew Hui Podcast project have rather-inadvertently documented an illustrious brewing dynasty.

The star of this episode – Captain Pale Ale himself, Epic’s Luke Nicholas – trained for a spell under the wings of Episode 2’s Ben Middlemiss; while Episode 1’s Kelly Ryan was, at one point, Luke’s right-hand-man (and, in Luke’s words, will always be part of the Epic family). So entirely by chance – as well as entirely out of chronological order – it’s with supreme pleasure that I close this particular circle!

Episode 3 requires little in the way of introduction – in short, I had the enviable opportunity to brew an IPA with an undisputed champion of the style.  As usual, you’ll find the episode streaming below – and can grab the MP3 here.  You can also download the podcast on iTunes, and the link to the podcast RSS feed is right here.  I’ve also posted some photos from the brew day on the Brew Hui Facebook page. Whatever’s your poison.

Books-out and pens-up, homebrewers – there’s some gold dust in this episode…

(I know, I know – it’s the same-old shithouse widget…I *promise* I’ll fix it over Christmas!!)

To grab yourself a pint of the West Coast IPA that Luke and I brewed, head along to Brothers Beer at City Works Depot in Auckland on Friday, 18th December.  From all accounts, it’ll be on tap from 12pm – but just follow me on Twitter (@jasegurney) and I’ll update you on the day.  I’ll be popping in for a pint myself at some stage – so come down and say hi!

As usual, the intro- and outro-music is from a track called ‘Red Pepper‘ by the fabulous (and presently-defunct) Wellington band Harbour City Electric.  Head along to their Bandcamp site to grab their EP and full album – you can even name your price!

My sincere thanks to Luke Nicholas and his exceptional team at Epic HQ in Penrose. Also many thanks to Brothers Beer, and to Harbour City Electric for their dulcet tones.

Have a very Merry and safe Christmas – and I’ll see you in 2016 with three more freshly-squeezed episodes!  Twitter: @jasegurney
